Faux Stone Exterior and Porch Panels

Detached two-car garage with faux stone panels on the pillars and gable
Customer project: Lightning Ridge in Nature’s Spirit. See more in our project gallery.

Stone on the outside of a house changes how the whole place looks from the street. Real stone needs a footing, a mason, scaffolding and a dumpster. Tritan BP panels are lightweight polyurethane, cast to hold the texture and depth of real stone. They install over a solid, flat exterior wall with construction adhesive and screws, and they cut with a standard saw. A competent DIYer can clad a wall in a weekend.

Prefer a brick look? Our brick panels work for this project too.

Example project: A 10 ft × 8 ft porch wall is 80 sq ft. At about 7.3 sq ft per Lightning Ridge panel, that is about 11 panels before cuts. The calculator adds an allowance for cuts. Use the panel calculator →

Recommended products

Porch walls, column bases, entryways, a front accent wall and the base of a garage are all good candidates. Our faux stone collections are rated for exterior use. So are Aged Brick, British Brick, Cottage Lane and the full concrete collection. Stick-A-Stone is interior only, so skip it outside.

Be straight with yourself about the outdoors. Sun fades everything outside, including these panels. The pigments are exterior grade with UV inhibitors, which slows it down, and a light UV-protective topcoat every three to five years keeps the color close to where it started. The panels are decorative. They go over the building’s weather-resisting layer, they do not replace it.

Tips before you start

Install over a solid, flat surface

Plywood or OSB sheathing, concrete block, poured concrete, stucco, brick and cement board all work. The surface needs to be sound, dry and flat.

Fix problems behind the panel first

If the wall is crumbling, damp or moves when you push it, repair that before you install. Panels will not hold a failing wall together.

Plan for the weather layer

Panels are not a weather-resisting layer. Exterior walls need the structure, membranes and flashings detailed for the building. Follow local code.

Protect the color

Apply a compatible light UV-protective topcoat every three to five years, depending on how exposed the wall is. Test a hidden area first. Touch-up kits cover cut edges and scuffs.

Order it all at once

Pigments are applied by hand, so a second batch ordered months later may not sit invisibly against the first.

Read the warranty

Tritan BP carries a 25-year limited warranty on the product, prorated. Normal fading and weathering are not covered. See the warranty page.
